Discarded to Divine 2013
For the past eight years, Discarded to Divine is a San Francisco event that has attracted more than 1,000 locals, fashionistas, professionals, and students. Put on by Saint Vincent de Paul Society, Discarded to Divine is a charity event that first takes place as an exhibit at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park, and later downtown at Gensler as an auction. The exhibit showcases apparel, accessory, and home décor designs from local designers and students. These designs are all created from discarded, donated clothing and are auctioned off in order to benefit those who suffer from poverty, homelessness, and domestic violence. As a student at San Francisco State University, my classmates and I helped organize and execute this event.
